CUSTOM ORDERS
The studio currently accepts orders for custom work. Please keep the following factors in mind when inquiring about a custom piece.
- We can't do everything. The types and styles of work presented on this site may not encompass the whole of our abilities, but we can only accept orders for the styles of jewelry shown here. We do not do metalwork or casting, for example, and cannot produce jewelry through those means. Feel free to ask us about styles of beadwork not shown here, as we may be able to accomodate your concept. A number of techniques tend to be too time consuming to allow us to use them without a specific buyer in mind.
- Let us know what practical information you can about the piece. Is it for a special occasion? Does it need to precisely match a specific garment? Will the piece experience greater than average stress? The more information we have to work with, the better we will be able to construct something to suit your needs. For instance, a necklace made to be worn every day will require some different construction techniques than one made for occasional wear, and some design options may not be possible under certain conditions. If a piece is made to match a specific garment, photos or swatches of the fabrics and other accessories are an excellent help to us when attempting to select the colors properly.
- Do you have a specific design in mind? If so, please let us know all you can about your idea. Sketches, photographs, or other visual references can be of great assistance in communicating your idea. Please note: we won't recreate the work of another designer. While `something similar to the piece in this photo' is probably fine, requests to `please make me a copy of this piece' will be declined.
- A deposit will be required for all custom orders. This deposit is non-refundable. The amount of this deposit is variable, and depends on the complexity of the piece and what supplies we may need to purchase to complete it.
- Though we specialize in one of a kind pieces, we take custom orders for matching or coordinating sets of jewelry for gifts to sisters, bridal parties, or similar instances in which two or more pieces of the same design may be desirable. We often can't match an existing piece due to the materials we use, and we won't recreate a piece of our own that has previously been sold to another customer as a one of a kind item as this would be extremely unprofessional and unfair to the original purchaser.
- Please be prepared for a good deal of discussion about the design you have in mind. We may have a number of questions for you about the materials you'd like to see, or specifics of the style itself. We want to do our best to ensure you are getting what you hope for, and we are willing to provide photos of the piece in progress.
- We will attempt to work with you on the price of your piece. Custom work is priced at $25/hour labor, and materials costs are applied. As many of our pieces take several hours to construct, the cost of the finished design adds up quickly. If you cannot spend over a certain amount, we need to know this when planning the time and materials for the piece. Though we will attempt to do what we can to fit your concept to your price range, more elaborate pieces take time. Our chokers, for example, take a minimum of ten hours for basic construction, and often up to thirty hours to complete.
- All pieces must be paid in full before they will be sent to the customer.
